About

ABOUT AUSTRALIAN CURATORIAL PROJECTS [ACProjects]

Matthew Perkins and Jan Duffy founded Australian Curatorial Projects in 2014 with the aim of developing and supporting curatorial projects. ACProjects is not a gallery space but a conceptual space for the study and development of curatorial practice. ACProjects is nomadic in character moving between conventional and non-conventional exhibition spaces where curatorial practice is seen as a conduit for active cultural participation and a meaningful way in which art communicates.

ACProjects also aims to link with local, national and international collaborators connecting communities, regions and geographically disparate locations creating a network of independent curators, artists and cultural producers. Through 2014 we will be developing THE NETWORK as a feature of this website to help link independent curators throughout Australia.

ACProjects PRIMARY AIMS:

  • to curate ambitious projects with an understanding that contemporary art has expanding interdisciplinary boundaries and hybrid forms of distribution;
  • to experiment with innovative curatorial models and methodologies;
  • to support curators and artists in creating new work;
  • to provide a platform for critical discourse on curatorial and artistic practice.
  • to connect independent curators throughout Australia;

ACProjects levels of curatorial production:

  1. ACProjects develops curatorial projects and then locates galleries or alternative spaces through which to realise those particular curatorial visions. [See our project page for projects under development that need an exhibition space];
  2. Arts organisations such as galleries and government agencies can engage ACProjects to develop specific projects or exhibition programs [Contact us to discuss any projects];
  3. Through ACProjects’s Young Curators are Visionaries program we aim to support projects by young curators [See our Young Curators are Innovators page].
